An on-fieldfight erupted after the quarter-time siren in Saturday’sRiverina Football Netball League (RFNL) game between Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong (GGGM)and Leeton-Whitton.

Spectators entered the field and several punches thrown with at least one supporter left with a bloodied face.

Police later arrived on the scene.

AFL Riverina football operations manager Shane Buchanan immediately launched an investigation into the ugly incident.

“It’s a bad blight on the game,” Buchanan said.

“There’s a lot of great volunteers out there trying to do the right thing by the game. This incident does nothing for the amount of great work that is done by everyone in the game.

“We’ll investigate it, go through due process and determine any consequences out of it.”

Umpires reported two players– GGGM footballers James Lawton and Adam Cullen for allegedly striking a spectator.

AFL Riverina has requested statements from clubs and umpires and will review those before determining the next course of action.

RFNL president Rob Ash witnessed the ‘nasty’incident but wanted to let the investigation run its course before making comment.

GGGM captain-coach Luke Sicker said the crowd involvement was to blame for the blow up.

“I think it’s pretty obvious that that’s not on,” he said.
