It was a big match for the club, its 90th anniversary game, in which past and present players were there to see the Roos try to gain a place on the ladder and in the finals, and bring their season to a height it had not reached for the past six years. It was coach Toby Quirk-Meeks’ 100th game.

A spectacular effort from the Lions, however, took the day away from the Roos, the Lions winning their first game in a nail-biter.

Coach Mark East had been stood down and replaced by assistant Robert Provan earlier in the week.

Nangiloc v BambillThe Saints took on the Demons at Nangiloc and won the match in their usual style with lots of goals despite a strong Nangiloc style of play.

This was a game the Demons would have wanted to win, in order to stay above Werrimull in this split round, with ladder positions possibly coming down to percentage.

Lachie Rhode scored the first for the quarter for the Demons, and good work from Cameron O’Brien, delivering to David Keens to score, was impressive.
