Dancing duo rediscover their feet

Keeping to the beat runs in the veins of Greg and Dinah Crawford, dancing their way through their 20s, the couple reignited their passion in 2012.

Initially entering dancecompetitions together in 1980, the Crawford’s spun their way through heats across Australia and New Zealand until 1991 when they hung up their dancing shoes to care for their three young children.

“The last time we danced was in 1991, we did a floor show at the Silverdome at the LGH ball.We were top of our game when we retired, we were Tasmanian champions in New Vogue and Latin.” Mr Crawfordsaid. In 2010, Mr Crawford saw an advertisement on TV about Andrew Palmer’s competitions, so he attendedas a spectator.

“I went and it just blew me away to see the talent of the people competing,” he said.

Mr Crawford returned home raving about the event to his wife.“I went home and said ‘you need to go and have a look at it, it really is quite incredible’.Dinah and I went to a social night at Andrew Palmer’s…[and]at the end of the night Andrew came over and said,‘alright you guys what is the deal you can obviously dance,’.”After some persuading, Palmer convinced the Crawford’s to dust off their dancing shoes.“We had 20 years off the floor and we were back dancing again,” Mr Crawford said.

The Crawford’s won their first competition post-retirement.Training up to four times a week to learn new footwork, Mr Crawford said dancing was a great way to keep fit.

“It is something that we can do together after kids have left, and it is just you two,” he said.Mr and Mrs Crawford attendcompetitions monthly.
