NEWBRIDGE has cemented top spot ahead of the LVFNL A-grade finals, after a nail-biting one goal win against Bridgewater.

The Maroons notched their 15th win of the season by overcoming a spirited Mean Machine 46-45.

With the Maroons enjoying a final round by next week, they will have the luxury of a two week break before their first final on August 22.

The one goal margin would have filled Bridgewater with plenty of confidence it can match the premiership favourites come finals time.

But the loss proved costly on another front with the Mean Machine dropping to fourth place on the ladder, after Calivil United took care of Marong.

The Demons produced one of their best efforts for the year in downing the Panthers 54-30 at Malone Park.

Their superior percentage to Bridgewater means the Demons need only win next week’s final round encounter against Pyramid Hill to secure the double finals chance.

The Mean Machine meet Marong in their final regular season game.

In other games. Mitiamo defeated Pyramid Hill 68-28 and YCW were too strong for Bears Lagoon-Serpentine 67-29.

Next week’s games see Mitiamo hosting YCW, and Bears-Lagoon Serpentine clash with Inglewood.

The Blues will be chasing their first win of the season and the Bears only their second.
