“We can’t have a situation where you’ve got an energy minister who is not out talking about energy,” Mr Green said on Sunday.

“I notice today in the newspapers there’s storiesabout energy, is Matthew Groom in any of those discussions?

“No, he’s in hiding.”

Last week the government withdrew from an inquiry into the state-owned energy business following a legal dispute between Hydro Tasmania and BassLink.

It is believed the legal action relates to the BassLink cable failure earlier in the year.

The decision was announced in a short statement byTreasurer Peter Gutwein and Mr Groom released late Thursday night.

The pair explained they had asked the Public Accounts Committee for a rescheduling of the hearing.

Mr Greenappearedbefore the inquiry on Friday.

He questioned why the whole inquiry had continued if legal advice excluded the government.

“Why was it that Hydro Tasmania themselves, the other party to this whole equation, appeared before the committee and answered dozens and dozens of questions?” he said.

In response to the opposition leader’s claimsMr Groom hit back saying he was heeding legal advice provided by the state’s top lawyer.

“It appears that Bryan Green not only refuses to listen to the Solicitor-General, he refuses to listen full stop,” Mr Groom said.

“Bryan Greenwas provided with a briefing by the Solicitor-General, and he is being extremely irresponsible it by ignoring it.”

Mr Groom also said he was committed to returning to front the inquiry.

“We requested for the hearing to be rescheduled to enable arrangements to be put in place to ensure that the state’sinterests are not being prejudiced,” he said.
