Mayor disendorsed

Fairfield Councillor Del Bennett, of Cabravale Ward, wasendorsed in his stead.

In a statement on Facebook, Mayor Carbone said that he wanted to express his gratitude “to all the genuine ALP members who attended the Ballot and supported my nomination.”

“I also want to express my gratitude to all the genuine members and the community who have supported me in my role for the past 4 years, as the Elected Mayor of Fairfield, for the ALP,” Mayor Carbone said.

Member for Prospect Dr Hugh McDermott also posted on Facebook congratulating Cr Bennett for her selection, saying she was “the choice of local ALP rank andfile members.”

Mayor Carbone still has the option to run as independentto contest the September 10 election.

Fairfield Councillor Dai Le, who was also running for preselection for Mayor in the NSW Liberal party, was likewise not endorsed.

She will now nominate as an independent for the position of Mayor.

It’s believed Cr Le isforming an independent ticket with Councillor Charbel Saliba and other notable locals.

Nominations for the Fairfield City Council election close on Wednesday at 12pm.
